To whip or not to whip

Model : Bachi

Last week I went to watch horse racing, yeah I just watched I didn’t win 😐

I was too excited and thrilled to go as this is on my bucket list, and finally I would be ticking it off. After a couple of races I started thinking about all the whipping the horses had to take in the effort to win. Maybe I was losing and hence the thought …hmmm……but on a serious note is it really necessary for the jockey to keep whipping the poor thing so that some people or the house could win. I went online and googled it and found that there are laws to fine/suspend jockeys for excessive whipping but how do you define “excessive”, definitely you don’t ask the horse,Β  “Have you been whipped excessively, do you want to press charges? ”

I felt bad that I paid to see this and also that I lost…hmmm …..I don’t know which one triggered the feeling. It just happened once , never to happen again.

Now I am going to concentrate on the next item in my bucket list – watch the animals in their natural habitat running free and wild ANDΒ  finish my next painting (this one’s not on the bucket list) πŸ™‚

  1. Really good point. On a different note I saw something that confused me. I’m looking at the blogs you follow and I see you already have a picture of the man my blog is about with the blog title, Black man, white jumpsuit. And yet it appears I can follow you again as me, who writes the blog, which is what usually shows up when I follow someone. How can I follow you twice or you even, follow me twice. Oh well, too much thought for my brain right now. lol

  2. In terms of defining excessive whipping…. in Australia horses are only allowed to be whipped up to 4 times in the last 50 metres (still too much if you ask me) :-/

  3. An excellent point well made,. I suspect the whipping has very little effect on the horses’ performance anyway. You get further in life with kindness than cruelty.

I have never been to a horse race, but have always wanted to go watch greyhound racing. What painting are you working on at the moment?

  5. This whipping matter touches my heart too, I can’t stand to see. But what is the reality or the story of success… really don’t want to know. Because of this I can’t go to visit horse racing… But I really want to watch them in nature and free… Thank you, by the way this photograph sadly looking to me too πŸ™‚ love, nia
